Before Wally gets any older, I wanted to share some of the things he’s been enjoying. Like other babies this age, he’s exploring and taking in this amazing world. He loves spending time with his parents, going outside, trying new foods, and listening to music. In addition to these things, he also has some great toys. Here are some of his current favorites:
Sophie La Girafe and Other Teethers
Wally has two (sharp!) teeth coming in. Hana says he likes his Sophie la girafe, which has various angles to chew on, as well as a squeaker. She gives Wally popsicle-like soothers in which she puts frozen milk or food to soothe his gums. The ones they have are from Haakaa, and they’re called Freeze-N-Feed Mini Combo Popsicle Molds.
Although it’s not normally classified as a toy, Wally’s silicone baby spoons also entertain him. The other day, he spent a long time chewing on it and “talking” with me from his baby seat.
Oball Rattle and Rattle Ball
Wally has a couple of Oball toys. They’re colorful, and their design makes them easy for babies to grasp. This is a great toy for developing fine motor skills, as well as hand eye coordination.
Baby Einstein 4-in-1 Kickn’ Tunes Music and Language Play Gym
Wally has enjoyed this play mat for a while. Recently, Hana detached the piano. Instead of making music with his feet, Wally figured out that he could play tunes with his hands. He’s having a ball!
Books
Hana and Steve read to Wally a lot, but his reaction to Peekaboo Sun by Camilla Reid surprised me when we read it this week. He was genuinely delighted by the sun and other creatures that peeked up over the cardboard pages of the book.
Unlike the original The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle, the new version, The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Let’s Count is made of fabric and sounds and feels crinkly. Indestructibles books are, as their name suggests, basically indestructible. These books are perfect for babies to grab, taste, and roll around with.
Bubbles
The other day, Wally’s great-grandmother brought some bubbles for him. Captivated, he could have spent a longer time watching them than we did.
Wooden Rainmaker Rattle
This is a clear cylinder with beads that sift through bright, flowerlike shapes with holes. The beads make a soft, rain-like sound as they move. As seen in the picture above, Hana has mentioned how much Wally likes it.
Six months old is truly a special age, and it’s fun to see Wally experiencing life. What activities and toys do your grandbabies like?
